River has launched over 30 products, applied for over 50 patents, and been awarded with more than 65 international design awards, including: iF Award, Red Dot Award, Good Design Award, and IDEA Award - Gold & Silver Award.
River is a Creative Leader with over 10 years of experience in the fields of Industrial Design,
User-Centered Design, Innovation Design, and Design Strategy. Currently River is the Design Director at frog, dedicated to Industrial Design and UX projects through finding insights and innovative solutions.
Previous to frog, River was a Director, Innovation Consulting at Continuum, conducting comprehensive user research, dedicated to discovering the right problems through insights, finding innovative solutions to solve them, and delivering distinguished outcomes to clients.
Previous to Continuum, River worked at KOHLER as a Lead Industrial Designer for 5 years, leading a team of industrial designers. He was responsible for the creative and innovative direction of KOHLER's Consumer Electronic Product portfolio. He led the team from the front-end (research, insights, concepts) to the back-end (product development & manufacturing phase). During his time at KOHLER, over 30 products he designed were launched, and over 45 patents were applied for.
GREAT ABSTRACT REASONING ABILITY TO SYNTHESIZE THE RIGHT PROBLEMS
In the Caliper test, River got an almost perfect score in Abstract Reasoning. This is the ability to synthesize a lot of information and come to a conclusion. As a result, this ability can effectively analyse underlying issues and root causes, recognise problems, and discover opportunities. This ability enables River to be a great design strategist and insight finder.
Most of his innovative or awarded projects are based on great insights. Using user-centered research to discover great insights and core problems is key to his design process and the continued success of his products and innovations.
Previous to KOHLER, River worked at IDEO as a Product Designer. Many years of experience in FROG, CONTINUUM, IDEO and RCA make him highly skilled at user-centered design and innovation methodologies. Currently River is also a visiting tutor at the Industrial Design Department of Tongji University (SH), lecturing "Design Thinking & Methodology".

River has received three Masters Degrees, including Innovation Design Engineering from RCA (London, MA), Innovation Design Engineering from Imperial College London (London, MSc),
and Electronic Engineering from NTU (Taiwan, MSc). His Bachelor Degree is Engineering Science from NCKU (Taiwan).
River started his career at Industrial Technology Research Institute (Taiwan) as an IC Designer. Projects he was involved in include the self-driving car, and H.264 Encoder. Over 10 years of engineering experience enables him to use his strong technology background while designing innovative products. Since 2013, River has applied for over 50 patents, including 9 invention patents, and 25 utility patents.
With a solid technology background, combined with his experience in a top design consultancy, and world-class in-house design studio, River has a deep understanding of how to lead highly technical engineering projects through user research, insights, and design.
He is inquisitive in many different areas and is able to connect the dots with his diverse background in order to solve the right problems based on the insights discovered through research. This is how he has found many creative directions and has created so much innovation.
River has created innovative products for several brands that are very influential in the world, such as: Ford, Coca Cola, Samsung, and KOHLER, making millions of users’ lives better through technology and design.
